Known Limitations
- ⚠️Single-page PDFs: You cannot split a PDF that only has one page — there is nothing to separate.
- ⚠️Password-protected PDFs: Encrypted files must be unlocked before splitting. Remove the password first, then come back to split.
- ⚠️Scanned PDFs: Splitting works normally, but each extracted page will be an image-based PDF without selectable text. To make text searchable after splitting, consider using OCR tools to extract text from the scanned pages.
- ⚠️Very large page counts: PDFs with 500+ pages may take longer to process — avoid closing the tab mid-process.
- ⚠️Bookmarks and table of contents: Internal bookmarks may become broken references after splitting since page numbering resets in each output file.
- ⚠️Need to recombine split files?: Use our Merge PDF tool to join them back together in a new order.
